             Profit forecast for the year to March 1999
                                  
                                  
Meikles Africa Limited ("MAL"), the Zimbabwe-based hotel and  retail
group,  listed on the Zimbabwe and London Stock Exchanges, announces
that  as a result of strong underlying trading and the healthy state
of  the  Company's  balance  sheet indications  are  that,  headline
earnings  per  share for the year to 31 March 1999 will  be  greater
than  three times that of the previous year.  MAL's results for  the
year to 31 March 1999 will be announced on or about 11 May 1999,  at
which  time  it  is  likely  that  the  Directors  will  declare   a
substantial increase in the dividend per share.
