               APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE

As  part of its strategy for growth and compliance with  the
international guidelines on transparency and good  corporate
governance, the Meikles group is to be restructured. Mr  JRT
Moxon is currently Chairman of Meikles Africa Limited and of
Meikles Consolidated Holdings (Private) Limited, the  parent
company,  and  will remain in these positions, participating
in  the implementation of group strategic direction and  co-
ordination of business initiatives and operations.  However,
good  corporate  governance requires the separation  of  the
duties of Chairman and Chief Executive and he will therefore
relinquish  his  role as Chief Executive of  Meikles  Africa
Limited.

Mr ACL Parvin, currently a non-executive director of Meikles
Africa  will move into a full time executive role  as  Chief
Executive  of  that company with effect from 1 October  1999.
In this position he will be responsible for the usual duties
performed  by  a  Chief Executive.  He will  relinquish  his
duties on the Remuneration and Audit committees.
