MILESTONE GROUP PLC
APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
FORMER UNITED BROADCASTING CHIEF JOINS BOARD
Milestone Group PLC ("Milestone" or "the Group"), the new cross-media group,
operating in publishing, radio and television, today announces the appointment
of Roger Laughton CBE as a Non-Executive Director of the Group with immediate
effect.
Roger, aged 61, has over 35 years of experience working at the BBC and ITV as a
director, producer and executive. He was also the executive responsible for the
launch of the BBC's daytime service in 1986.
In 1990, Roger joined MAI to lead the successful bid for the ITV franchise in
the South and South-East of England. Roger became the Chief Executive of
Meridian, which started broadcasting in 1993. In 1996, he joined the Board of
United News and Media ("UNM") as Chief Executive of United Broadcasting and
Entertainment, the broadcasting division of UNM.
In 1999, Roger was appointed Head of Bournemouth Media School. He stepped down
as a Director of UNM in 2000 following the sale of the broadcasting division to
Granada. He was awarded the Royal Television Society's Gold Medal in 1999 and
appointed CBE in 2000.
Commenting on the appointment Andy Craig, Chief Executive of Milestone, said;
"Roger's understanding of the local media market, his involvement with
successful broadcasting businesses, as well as his knowledge of the regulatory
environment will be invaluable to Milestone as we look to develop further our
cross-media strategy for the local market place."
Roger Laughton CBE commented;
"Local publishing - in print, radio and television - is a major opportunity in
the UK. As the big national media companies consolidate, so the need for local
voices is greater. Milestone's cross-media strategy is well positioned to
capitalise on this."
