ROYAL LONDON UK EQUITY & INCOME TRUST PLC (the "Company")

Substantial Shareholder

The Company has today been notified that, following purchases on Friday 7
January 2005, discretionary clients of Trafalgar Asset Managers Limited have an 
aggregate interest in 3,500,000 ordinary 1p shares in the Company. This holding 
represents 5.0% of the Company's issued share capital.

In addition, it is noted that the customer funds also hold an aggregate position
of 10,875,000 ordinary 1p shares through contracts for differences (CFD).
