                                 BOARD CHANGE

The Board of Thorntons PLC ("Thorntons") announces that Philip Douty, Trading &
Marketing Director, is leaving the Company on 15 December 2006. He will step
down from the Board at the same time.

The search for a new Marketing Director will commence immediately with a view to
making an appointment as soon as possible. In the interim, Mike Davies, Chief
Executive, will take on responsibility for Trading and Marketing.

John von Spreckelsen, Chairman, commented:
