Resignation of Non-Executive Director

The Company has today accepted the resignation of Alice Avis as a Non-Executive
Director of Thorntons plc with immediate effect following her appointment as
marketing director of Marks and Spencer to whom Thorntons supplies chocolate and
sugar confectionery.

The Company is actively seeking replacement Non-Executive Directors.
