                                 BOARD CHANGES 
 
 
Thorntons PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan Hart as Group 
Chief Executive with effect from 4 January 2011. 
 
Jonathan Hart's retail and consumer goods experience spans more than 25 years. 
For the past five years Jonathan has been Managing Director of Caffè Nero, 
where, during his tenure, the business has more than doubled in size to over 400 
stores with EBITDA of GBP28.7m and revenue of GBP153.6m (year to May 2010). In 
addition to driving top-line growth and physical expansion, he streamlined 
retail merchandising, built the Caffè Nero brand equity and improved company 
profitability. 
 
Prior to joining Caffè Nero, Jonathan held senior positions at Abbey, 
Woolworths, Big W and ITM Communications. Before ITM Communications, Jonathan 
spent more than a decade with Dixons Group plc, where, latterly, he was 
responsible for the Group's GBP1bn high street brands (including Dixons, The 
Link and Dixons Tax-Free) as Group Managing Director and as Group Managing 
Director of PC World International. 
 
Commenting on the appointment, John von Spreckelsen, Chairman of Thorntons, 
said:

and consumer goods sectors. He has an impressive track record in successfully 
running a number of multi channelbusinesses, including concessions, and a proven 
track record in the development of retail format strategies, as well as new

Jonathan Hart was an Executive Director of Caffè Nero Group Plc from November 
2005 until its privatisation in February 2007. Jonathan was an executive 
director of ITM Communications Ltd and its parent company, Firmgrowth Ltd, from 
November 2000 until December 2001 and a Non-Executive Director from December 
2001 until October 2002. Firmgrowth Limited went into creditors' voluntary 
liquidation in December 2002. There are no further matters requiring disclosure 
under Listing Rule 9.6.13.
