Thorntons PLC (the "Company")

DIRECTORS DEALING

The Company was informed today that Mr John 
Thornton, Chairman, sold 202,450 Ordinary Shares 
of 10p each in the Company at 288p per share on 
11 March 1998. The proceeds of the sale will be 
used to fund personal property development 
investment projects. This is Mr Thorntons first 
sale of shares in the Company since 1988.

As a result of this sale, Mr Thornton has a 
beneficial interest of 3,756,285 Ordinary Shares 
representing 5.7 per cent of the Company.
