Desalination Project Critical to Improving Australia's Long-term
Water Supply PRINCETON, N.J., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Tyco Water,
a division of Tyco Flow Control, has been selected to support the
construction of Australia's largest desalination project, one of
the largest public-private partnerships for infrastructure in the
world. The desalination plant to be constructed in the State of
Victoria is critical to meeting the needs of the drought-stricken
areas of southern and eastern Australia and has the capability to
turn sea water into close to 40 billion gallons of drinking water
per year for some 3.5 million people in Melbourne and surrounding
areas. As part of the (US) $120 million contract, Tyco Flow Control
will supply the project with 6,200 mild steel pipes, stretching
across 53 miles and connecting the desalination plant to the
Melbourne water supply. Tyco Flow Control has long provided
products and expertise to major water projects in Australia, around
the Pacific Rim, and other parts of the world. The company was
awarded this latest project due to its ability to provide high
performance, durable piping and to deliver the product on an
extremely demanding timetable, satisfying the stringent
requirements of this vital water pipeline project. "The
technologies provide great potential to save and extend our
precious water supplies," said Victoria Water Minister Tim Holding.
"Together, we'll bring much-needed, safe drinking water to the
people of Victoria." "Tyco Flow Control is involved throughout the
water and wastewater treatment cycle, from the dam to the
household," said Patrick Decker, president of Tyco Flow Control.
"We are committed to developing products and technology to help
meet global water needs, and this project represents a significant
step toward building the necessary infrastructure. Our ultimate
goal is to reduce our impact on the environment while preserving
this precious resource." Tyco Flow Control's innovative flow
management technology enhances the safe and efficient delivery of
water to homes, schools and communities. The advanced properties of
the materials to be incorporated in this pipeline, for example,
will safeguard the pipeline for decades while reducing the energy
needed for pumping water. Additionally, the pipes will be
manufactured on a newly completed state-of-the-art production line
that incorporates 'green' improvements such as reduced energy and
water consumption. Tyco Flow Control's participation in the
Melbourne water project is part of its global effort to bring vital
infrastructure to local communities around the globe. Its products
and services help deliver the planet's essential resources - water,
energy and food - to ensure a safer and more sustainable future.
