U.S. home prices dropped 1.8% on a seasonally-adjusted basis from October to November, according to a government index released Thursday.

Home prices fell across all nine regions of the U.S., dropping most along the western part of the country and in the Midwest.

The overall plunge in home prices was far sharper than the 1.1% decline recorded from September to October.

The index, compiled by the Federal Housing Finance Agency, tracks only homes purchased with mortgages bought by Fannie Mae (FNM) or Freddie Mac (FRE).
