The following table lists unplanned and planned production
outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The
information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining
sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.
Most recently, Flint Hills Resources on March 19 confirmed the
shut one of three processing units at its Alaska refinery due to
low jet fuel demand.
Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) on March 19 said the gasoline-making
FCCU at its Ardmore, Okla., refinery was back at normal processing
rates following its March 11 unplanned shutdown.
Valero restarted on March 19 crude unit No. 1 at the West Plant
section of its Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery. The unit was shut
in mid-January for planned turnaround maintenance.
ExxonMobil (XOM) will restart on March 19 a hydrogen plant at
its Torrance, Calif., refinery. The plant, one of two at the
facility, has been off-line since fourth-quarter 2008.
And Valero Energy on March 18 restarted crude unit No. 4 and a
vacuum unit located in the East Plant section of the Corpus Christi
refinery. The units were shut on March 17 to repair a leak in an
exchanger.
Planned turnaround maintenance is ongoing on March 17 at one of
three crude units at BP's (BP) Whiting, Indiana, refinery. The
30-40 days of maintenance started earlier this month and is seen
concluding by the end of the month or by early April.
Alon USA (ALJ) reported a sulfur recover units snag on March 16
at it's Big Spring, Texas, refinery; the problem did not have an
impact on the refinery's operations.
Planned turnaround maintenance continues on March 16 at
ConocoPhillips' (COP) Rodeo, Calif., refinery's hydrocracker and
reformer units. The work, slated to take 45 days, is expected to
conclude around April 15 and will cause intermittent flaring
events, company personnel said.
Marathon Oil Corp. (MRO) on March 16 confirmed the shutdown of a
crude unit and two coker units on March 9 at its Robinson,
Illinois, refinery for planned turnaround maintenance; no restart
estimate was given.
Tesoro (TSO) on March 14 began 17-days of planned work at a
coker and reformer unit at its Wilmington, Calif. refinery. The
work is expected to have minimal impact on product output, the Co.
said.
Harvest Energy Trust (HTE) will shut its entire North Atlantic
refinery in Newfoundland in the first week of April for 21-days to
facilitate planned maintenance and upgrade work. Work to increase
the plant's hydrocracker capacity by 1,000-barrels-a-day, to
38,000-barrels a day, will continue for an addition 14 days.
