Hertel UK has agreed to withdraw all 40 of its non-UK workers
from its insulation project at the South Hook liquefied natural gas
terminal at Milford Haven in Wales, the company said in an emailed
statement Wednesday.
The company was at the center of a row over the hiring of
foreign workers which lead to two days of protests at energy
facilities across the U.K.
"Following discussions today we have agreed to withdraw
immediately all 40 non-UK workers and will be looking to directly
employ suitably skilled UK workers, the company's managing
director, David Fitzsimons, said in the statement."
"We trust this will bring the unofficial strike action to an end
and hope staff will agree to return to work today," the statement
added.
Hundreds of contract workers at U.K. energy facilities held a
second day of unofficial strikes Wednesday to protest the use of
foreign labor by Hertel UK.
