The partnership Total SA (TOT) plans to develop with Russian peer OAO Lukoil Holdings (LKOH.RS) may go beyond refining, Total's refining and marketing president told Dow Jones Newswires.

Total plans "to develop an industrial partnership with Lukoil, not necessarily just in refining for that matter," Michel Benezit said Friday in an interview.

Total said June. 19 it had execised its preemptive rights over shares being sold by Dow Chemical Co. (DOW) in its Vlissingen, Netherlands refinery and had agreed to sell them to Lukoil.

"We want to develop a long-term partnership with Lukoil and to have them as partners in a refinery like Vlissingen, which is a refinery that for the most part treats crude that comes from the East, is a good idea," he said.
