The following table lists unplanned and planned production
outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The
information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining
sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.
Most recently, Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) said Tuesday that the
crude and fluid catalytic cracking units at its Ardmore, Okla.
refinery still aren't producing any product following a Saturday
night power outage and fire.
The fire was put out, but the hydrotreater is still shut down,
Day said Tuesday morning.
Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) started work on a hydrogen unit as part
of a sulfur recovery unit Tuesday at its Torrance, Calif. refinery,
the company said.
The work has already caused flaring and should last for a weeks,
according to a company spokeswoman.
Marathon Corp.'s (MRO) St. Paul, Minn., refinery experienced a
power blip Friday, the company said Monday. Shortly after the
outage, the refinery resumed normal operations, company spokesman
Robert Calmus said.
Last week, a California juge halted the expansion at Chevron
Corp. (CVX) Richmond Refinery.
The court ordered Chevron to halt any project-related activity
until the city of Richmond, Calif., has had a chance to reconsider
its approval of an environmental review of the project and ensure
that the review meets state environmental regulations. The order
issued last week gives Chevron 60 days to "demobilize" workers and
equipment from the construction site.
Last week, severe weather caused a unit upset at Delek US
Holdings Inc.'s (DK) Tyler, Texas refinery, the company reported in
a filing with environmental regulators.
The sat gas unit flared for 25 minutes before operators
corrected problems, the report to the Texas Commission on
Environmental Quality said.
Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) restarted a crude unit June 30 at its
Corpus Christi, Texas refinery, according to a report filed with
environmental regulators.
The 40,000 unit labeled #1 went down Monday for a brief repair
and is located at the west plant at the refinery, which can process
up to 142,000 barrels a day of crude.
In May, the hydrocracker and reformer at the Golden Eagle
refinery in Martinez were shut down for planned maintenance. The
refinery can process up to 166,000 barrels a day.
Valero said on June 15 that the restart of a crude unit, vacuum
unit and coker at its Norco, La., refinery is a least three weeks
away. The units were shut due to a minor fire on June 9.
Also on June 15, Valero said it would delay the plant-wide
shutdown of its Aruba refinery to mid-July rather than early
July.
