Technology stocks were trading sideways Friday morning as the
Nasdaq Composite Index wavered in what is turning out to be a
volatile trading session.
The Nasdaq (RIXF) inched up 0.1% to 1,986 at last check. The
tech-heavy index briefly topped the 2,000 level Thursday for the
first time since October.
The Morgan Stanley High Tech 35 Index (MSH) also rose 0.2%,
while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) added 0.1%.
The sector took a hit from a decline in shares of NetSuite Inc.
(N), which was off more than 14% after reporting a bigger
second-quarter loss.
Other tech bellwethers were also in the red, including
Amazon.com (AMZN), Dell Inc. (DELL) and Cisco Systems (CSCO).
However, other major tech players posted gains, including Oracle
Corp. (ORCL), Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and Advanced Micro Devices
(AMD).
