Now a report from the investigative outfit ProPublica argues that much of the fault for the collision lies with the Integrated Bridge and Navigation System (IBNS), designed and installed by Northrop Grumman.

They cite a report by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which found that “the design of the John S McCain’s touch-screen steering and thrust control system increased the likelihood of the operator errors that led to the collision.”

ProPublica re-created the IBNS controls from that report and Navy specifications, and it’s not a pretty picture. The cluttered user interface is straight out of the early 1990s Windows variants.

A new report into the 2017 collision that killed 10 sailors and nearly sank a US warship argues the badly designed touch-screen control system was at fault. So its creators will now get paid to ‘fix’ it, obviously

Critical infrastructure modernization, such as airport systems, offer U.S. public sector contractors an opportunity to expand their international operations

Federally-focused vendors are increasing their value proposition by appealing to demand for cost takeout solutions, through either the repurposing of existing capabilities for new applications or through the development of new solutions that tackle unique problems. To this end, IS has partnered with Cirque Energy Inc. to develop a Deployable Gasification Unit (DGU), which takes on-site waste produced by military and industrial operations and converts it to electricity and recoverable heat.

$ NOC. NATO's First Alliance Ground Surveillance Aircraft Unveiled.

-- Northrop Grumman and European Industry Partners Enable a new System of Systems ISR Capability

PALMDALE, California, June 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Expanding NATO's joint intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capability, Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) and its industry partners together with NATO leaders unveiled the first NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) aircraft to an audience of customers, distinguished guests, employees and community leaders.

Photos accompanying this release are available at: http://media.globenewswire.com/noc/mediagallery.html?pkgid=33508.

A video accompanying this release is available at: http://ow.ly/NSaFL.

The unmanned aircraft, a wide area surveillance Global Hawk, is part of a broader system of systems solution that will advance the Alliance's evolving ISR needs during a full range of NATO's missions such as protection of ground troops and civilian populations, border control and maritime safety, the fight against terrorism, crisis management and humanitarian assistance in natural disasters.

"This marks a significant step forward in achieving NATO's goal of acquiring NATO-owned and operated AGS Core Capability," said Erling Wang, chairman of the NATO AGS Management Organization (NAGSMO). "What you see here today is the result of one of the commitments made at the 2012 NATO Summit – to bring this advanced and critical persistent ISR capability to the Alliance to help ensure we can continue to address the range of challenges our member and other allied nations face."

collective defence
crisis management
cooperative security

The NATO-owned and operated program comprises five air vehicles and fixed, mobile and transportable ground stations. Northrop Grumman's primary industrial team includes Airbus Defence and Space (Germany), Selex ES (Italy) and Kongsberg (Norway), as well as leading defense companies from all participating countries.

The industries of the 15 participating nations (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and the United States), are each contributing to the delivery of the AGS system. All 28 Alliance nations will take part in the long-term support of the program.

"We are establishing the necessary ground stations, command and control systems, and training and logistics support services at the NATO AGS main operating base at Sigonella Air Base in Italy," stated Jim Edge, general manager of the NATO AGS Management Agency.

With the ability to fly for up to 30 hours at a time, the high-altitude long-endurance system will provide NATO leaders with persistent global situational awareness. The aircraft is equipped with leading-edge technology, including the Multi-Platform Radar Technology Insertion Program (MP-RTIP) sensor. The MP-RTIP will provide critical data to commanders during operations in any weather, day or night. The NATO AGS system will also be able to fuse sensor data, continuously detect and track moving objects and provide detailed imagery.

"The level of collaboration required to bring together successfully so many international partners in the development of this tremendous system of systems capability for NATO speaks to the commitment and strength of the trans-Atlantic relationships we have built with our key partners, to deliver what is truly a European program," said Janis Pamiljans, sector vice president and general manager, unmanned systems, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems.

The companies also are working to integrate Remotec's unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and AirRobot's aerial systems to create new ground/air capabilities that meet a wide range of operational requirements.

As part of the agreement, which commenced earlier this month, Remotec also will provide service, maintenance and technical support for all AirRobot systems in the U.S.

The systems can also carry a wide range of payloads – including multi-spectral cameras and recorders, synthetic aperture radar, gas and chemical sensors – and as many as three payloads simultaneously.

"We are proud to collaborate with Remotec, the largest provider of robots to the first responder market," said Thomas Meyer, president of AirRobot US. "The products and capabilities perfectly complement each other, with each system providing increased operational value for the other. We also share and value Remotec's commitment to the highest level of customer service."

Hundreds of systems are in service that have flown thousands of missions in military, public and commercial applications worldwide. AirRobot systems have been certified for compliance with NATO standards and undergone testing by the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Northrop Grumman Remotec, based in Clinton, Tennessee, has been keeping danger at a distance for more than 25 years, providing rugged and dependable hazardous duty robotics for the military, explosive ordnance disposal teams, hazardous materials units, Special Weapons and Tactics units, and other first responders.

$ NOC. Northrop Grumman Delivers Center/Aft 'Shipset' for First International EA-18G Growler.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has completed and delivered to The Boeing Company a major subassembly of the first of 12 EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft ordered by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

Northrop Grumman Corporation logo.
Photos accompanying this release are available at: http://media.globenewswire.com/noc/mediagallery.html?pkgid=31672.

The subassembly, also known as a shipset, comprises the Growler's center/aft fuselage section, twin vertical tails and all associated subsystems. It is the 115th Growler shipset produced by Northrop Grumman and the first to be produced for an international customer.

"We are honored to celebrate this significant milestone with the U.S. Navy and our industry partners," said RAAF Director General Capability Planning, Air Commodore Michael Kitcher. "I am confident that Growler will provide our air force with the most versatile and effective airborne electronic attack platform in the world."

Including this first Growler, Northrop Grumman has delivered shipsets for 100 Australian F/A-18 Hornet aircraft, including 24 F/A-18 Super Hornets. Northrop Grumman is Boeing's principal subcontractor on the F/A-18 Super Hornet and its Growler derivative.

"Production of the first international Growler shipset marks another important milestone in Northrop Grumman's storied history as a volume producer of advanced aircraft systems of unmatched quality," said John Murnane, F/A-18 program manager and director, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems. "Our consistent record of on-time, on-budget performance helps give Australia critical, new offensive and defensive options for its air combat operations."

Northrop Grumman produced and integrated the RAAF Growler shipset on its F/A-18 assembly line in El Segundo, which it uses to produce major center and aft structures for both F/A-18 and EA-18G aircraft. The company plans to continue producing shipsets on the line at least through August 2017.

"This significant milestone brings us one step closer to Australia becoming the first country besides the United States to receive this unique airborne electronic attack capability," said Dan Gillian, Boeing F/A-18 and EA-18G programs vice president. "Boeing looks forward to celebrating the rollout of the first RAAF Growler this summer."

The EA-18G Growler is a derivative of the Navy's combat-proven, two-seat F/A-18F Super Hornet. Its primary mission is to detect, identify and disrupt enemy air defense radar and related communication systems.

In addition to producing the Growler shipset, Northrop Grumman produces and integrates the jet's primary electronic warfare subsystems, and provides related software maintenance and support services.
